Review: Threadgill’s, Austin, Texas.

Austin

Threadgill’s Home Cooking

The Food: On my most recent visit, I had the fried chicken livers ($8.95 with 2 sides).  As usual they were perfectly breaded- crispy and not too greasy, with amazing cream gravy on the side.  This is true cream gravy- it’s not like any you’ve had before.  Meals are served with fresh rolls a cornbread.

Threadgill’s has a large number of sides from which to choose.  It may sound blasphemous to a fried food lover, but try a dinner salad.  Threadgill’s makes their salad dressings from scratch- my favorites are the chipotle ranch and the jalapeno honey mustard.  They’ll even give you seconds your salad (free) if you ask.
(Editor’s Note: The Chicken Fried is very good. It’s worth the stop if you’re in the area.)

The Place: Spacious restaurant with pure Texas decorations and whatnot. Threadgill’s hosts live music outside in the Beergarden often (it is in Austin).

The People: Friendly. Service has been good, even at busy times.

Cost: For an entree and drink, expect to spend around $10.

Adult Beverages: Yup.

Take-out: Sure.
